CAGE code lookup

Type a company name to get its CAGE code, or paste a CAGE code to find the company. You also get the UEI, the NAICS codes it registered under, its set-aside types, and whether the registration is still active, which is the part that decides whether it can be paid at all.

722,270 registered companies, read from the federal SAM extract. Free, no account.

Questions people ask

What is a CAGE code?

A five character code the Defense Logistics Agency gives every company registered to do business with the federal government. It identifies you on contracts, invoices and shipping documents. You do not apply for it separately, it is issued when your SAM registration is approved.

How do I find a company's CAGE code?

Type the company name into the box above. The answer comes from the federal registration extract, which is the same record a contracting officer reads. You can also paste a CAGE code to find out which company it belongs to.

How do I get a CAGE code for my own company?

Register at SAM.gov. It is free, it takes a couple of weeks, and the CAGE code is issued as part of it. Anyone charging you to obtain one is selling you something you can do yourself.

What is the difference between a CAGE code and a UEI?

The UEI is the twelve character identifier SAM issues and is what most systems key on now. The CAGE code is the five character one from the Defense Logistics Agency and is still used across defence work. Most registered companies have both.

My registration shows as expired. What does that mean?

A SAM registration has to be renewed every year. An expired one means you cannot be awarded new work or paid on existing work until you renew it, and it is the most common reason a bid is thrown out before anyone reads it.

Is this the official CAGE code search?

No. This reads the public federal registration extract and presents it plainly. The official records live at SAM.gov and, for CAGE specifically, at the Defense Logistics Agency.
