What is my NAICS code?
Type what your company does in your own words. You get the code the government uses for it, and how many federal solicitations are open under that code right now, which is the part that tells you whether it is worth registering under.
Questions people ask
What is a NAICS code?
A six digit code for the kind of work a company does. The government tags every job it buys with one, so your codes decide which work is shown to you and which set-asides you can use.
How many NAICS codes should my company have?
As many as genuinely describe what you do. There is no penalty for having several, and each one is a separate stream of work you will be shown. Picking one and stopping is the common mistake.
Where do I put my NAICS codes?
On your SAM.gov registration, which is the record agencies search. Change them there any time, free.
Does my NAICS code decide whether I count as a small business?
Yes. The SBA sets a size limit for each code, either an average of your revenue or a headcount, so the same company can be small under one code and not under another.
